I believe we need a thingy that can flung chunks of kaboom to a distance of far away.
Key features: recoil animation, simple model, muzzle blast, explosive ammo.
Useful for: Tanks, ships, armoured vehicles, early attack aircraft.
This is one of the few components we can't make with existing parts, as all three known systems have great shortcomings.

Or just add the following XML attribute to machine guns.
Explosionradius - Determines the range in which the damage can be delt, and the explosion size.
Selfdestructproximity - If aircraft is within this amount (unit), the bullet explodes.
and make the Ammo attribute actually useful.

XML mod wing guns. edit the "bulletScale" to your likings and also increase the "damage" and you got yourself a cannon :)

I like this idea. I would fing good uses for this.
